Chronic Pain Therapy in Oregon (Virtual)

Virtual Chronic Pain Therapy In Oregon

At the Mind Body Therapy Center, we specialize in the types of therapy consistently demonstrated by researchers to significantly reduce or eliminate chronic pain symptoms.

Oregon’s Pain Management Commission complained in 2025 that patients “are often not adequately informed by their providers on key concepts related to chronic pain, such as neuroplasticity and central sensitization.” These evidence-based concepts form the foundation of the work that we do with clients, with therapies such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), and Intensive Short Term Psychodynamic Therapy (ISTDP).

If you are an Oregonian experiencing chronic pain or chronic physical symptoms – you’re not alone. An estimated 800,000 people in Oregon are living with chronic pain, according to the CDC’s National Health Interview Survey, with over a third of those suffering from high-impact chronic pain that significantly affects their quality of life or ability to work.

The Mind Body Therapy Center, headquartered in Portland, OR, is here to change that – one person at a time. With our team of licensed and associate psychotherapists in Oregon, which includes executive director Daniel Lyman, associate director Gabrielle Jacobs, and psychotherapists Cheryl Lane, Daniel Gaines, Kylie Davis, Kathryn Schwartz, and Mike Averill, we see clients using our virtual, telehealth platform across the state, from Portland to Bend, Eugene to the Oregon coast, Salem to Ashland, and every city and town in between.

Our Oregon team of chronic pain specialists is committed to raising awareness that chronic pain can be effectively addressed through psychotherapy.

Mind Body Therapy Executive Director Daniel Lyman has spoken on treating chronic pain through neuroplastic recovery techniques at the Lines for Life Oregon Conference on pain and addiction treatment. Daniel and MBTC associate director Gabrielle Jacobs are regularly featured as expert panelists on the Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms (ATNS) monthly member and clinician Q&As, and all of our Oregon clinicians are active members of the ATNS’s local Oregon chapter. Mind Body Therapy Center has been featured on KGW News for our work treating chronic pain.

Mind Body Therapy Center’s Oregon therapists actively participate in ongoing research efforts.

Daniel Lyman recently finished working as a research therapist on a randomized controlled trial through the University of Colorado’s Anschutz School of Medicine comparing Pain Reprocessing Therapy to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of chronic back pain, while Gabrielle Jacobs and Cheryl Lane are currently employed as research clinicians on a study with the University of Colorado’s Anschutz School of Medicine and the Hospital for Special Surgery using Pain Reprocessing Therapy for patients experiencing chronic knee pain after total knee replacement. Mike Averill, who founded the PNW Integrative Center and is licensed by the Oregon Health Authority to facilitate therapeutic work with psilocybin, is also working on a study on Pain Reprocessing Therapy for use in veteran populations.

As part of PESI’s 2026 Chronic Pain Summit, Gabrielle led a virtual seminar on using Pain Reprocessing Therapy and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy to treat chronic pain and other chronic symptoms.
